Dear Neighbors,

The Meeting House of The First Religious Society has overlooked the Carlisle Green for the past 250 years. It was the gathering place where townsfolk met and marched to Concord on the morning of April 19th, 1775.

In 2008, The First Religious Society is still a launching place for people who set out to walk together for the common good. Today the paths we take are many and include spiritual awakening, actions to change things for the better, living intentionally, cultivating generosity, celebrating life in music and art, learning and growing in character, and creating justice. Since its founding, FRS has been a church where our religious heritage and wisdom are applied to the issues of the times, and life’s milestone events are honored and celebrated.

We are a Unitarian Universalist congregation, affirming a shared covenant and values. This is a church where you come to discover what it is that you truly believe and value. We are enriched by our differences as well as our shared values. As a Welcoming Congregation, we are committed to being a place where people of all sexual orientations are welcome. As a covenanted congregation that is independent and creedless, we are committed to developing our understanding of faith and tradition in light of the challenges of these times.

Our values and faith are the focus of music, religious education, and sermons during our 10:00AM Sunday services. If you think this could be a spiritual home for you, explore what we are about. Stop by and say hello. Read more about Unitarian Universalism at www.uua.org, our denominational website, or see what they say at the independent www.beliefnet.com.

I am delighted to have been called as the Minister of this remarkable church, where years ago I had been Interim Minister. It is a joy to return to Carlisle, to partner with the members of the congregation and our outstanding staff. As we launch a new beginning of our long tradition of transforming lives and making a better world, I invite you to get to know us. I look forward to getting to know you.
